(R. 1837-1901)

Queen Victoria was born on 24 May 1819 to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and Princess Victoire of Saxe-Gotha, previously married to the late Prince of Leiningen by the name of Princess Alexandrina Victoria of Kent. She was born in London at the home of most of her formative years, Kensington Palace. Her early life was described by some as miserable but sources show that she had a happy childhood which was occasionally overshadowed by the strict confines of her lifestyle which was known as the Kensington System which ruined her impressions upon her birthplace. Once she turned 18, she was no longer required to have a regent or a guardian due to her being the heir apparent after her father and one of her uncles passed (Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany). The current reigning monarch, King William IV, one of the two uncles she tolerated, was keen to ensure that his niece became a model monarch without the interference of her mother whom he personally loathed.
